Why can't lactating women take certain vitamins?

Also protein shakes and other things? Why can't lactating women take certain vitamins?
You need food when you are lactating, not protein shakes. I have never heard of a vitamin you shouldn't take. Many doctors prescribe a pre-natal vitamin for lactating women. You should not take herbal remedies with out the doctor's OK.
It is carried to the baby in their milk. You can overdose your baby on things the child does not need.
Some vitamins do not leave your system (or the baby's) quickly and can cause harm.
Vitamin E is one you should be careful of - I remember this from when I was feeding.
You should contact your lactation consultant about your dietary concerns to make sure what you want to do is safe.
